Technical Committee Training in Hong Kong (17 – 19 December 2005)

Authorized Auditors’ Training in Hong Kong (17 – 19 Dec 2005)

The Intelligent Building Index (IBI) is one of the most important contributions the AIIB has made to the industry.  In the Singapore Chapter, the Technical Committee was formed with the aims to:

  1. 1)     Customize & localize the IBI to better suit our local context;
  2. 2)     Propagate the use of IBI in Singapore so as to raise the quality of Intelligent Buildings in Singapore;
  3. 3)     Educate members and the community on the use of IBI.

With these aims in mind, the Technical Committee, comprising of Mr Andrew Mui (Lighting Eliminators & Consultants, Asia), Mr Chan Kim Kai (Temasek Polytechnic), Mr Johnson See (United PREMAS), Mr Tay Chung Yeow (CPG Consultants), and Assoc Prof Tay Seow Ngie (Nanyang Technological University), set out to the City University of Hong Kong for the 3-day intensive Authorized Auditors’ Training which came complete with an equally intensive examination. We were familiarized with the theory behind the IBI, its 10 indices and their respective elements, and how the indices relate with one another.  The instructors’ sharing on their experiences in actual audits was invaluable even as we plan to audit our first building in Singapore.  Most invigorating were the numerous technical exchanges of points, experiences and questions between the Singaporean delegates and the Hong Kong instructors.  This must be the most serious group of trainees.  Lunch & even dinner breaks were filled with discussions on learning points and what we could do as a committee.  The relationships built with one another as well as our friends from Hong Kong as a result will also go a long way to further the cause of AIIB. Having been armed with technical know-how, we look forward to auditing our first building as well as conducting a workshop/seminar in 2006.
